Computing Statement of Intent
At Lostwithiel School, we follow the New National Curriculum for Computing, delivering a high-quality computing education to create active participants in a digital world. We believe that ICT is an important communicative tool in an area which is geographically isolated from the rest of the UK.
We aim for our pupils to be computer literate at a level suitable for their future workplace by adopting our 5ps behaviour expectations; persevering to achieve specified outcomes or analyse problems; working in partnership with outside agencies within our community to develop knowledge and understanding as well as with their peers as a communicative tool, demonstrating pride in their respect for computing equipment and the value of the subject within the ever changing world, participating with a passion for learning as a result of aspirational and purposeful learning opportunities.
Computing is taught discreetly and with enough time to ensure a quality outcome however computing links with writing, mathematics, science and design technology and is therefore applied every half term in meaningful ways throughout other curriculum areas. Key vocabulary will be taught and children will use these to communicate their ideas with each other.
We also strongly believe, in-line with Rights For Respecting Schools articles 16, 17, 19 and 34, that children have the right to protection from exploitation and must be taught how to use technology in safe ways to secure their privacy/security. Staying Safe On-line lessons are taught throughout the year and there is a sharp focus on becoming responsible digital citizens.
