Lostwithiel School Local Governing Body
This section of the website tells you all about Lostwithiel School Governing Body. We are a small group of dedicated and hardworking individuals who work together as a team, with school improvement at the forefront of all our work. 
The full Governing body meet at least 3 times during the year. 
In addition to this, each Governor has an area they are responsible for and termly visits to the school take place to support and challenge in these areas. As Governors we provide a voice for the children, parents, staff and wider community.

    Chair of Governors

    I am delighted to be part of the Lostwithiel Governing Body and acting chair of governors. I am currently the Research & Development Lead for CELT, implementing the school improvement strategy ‘Closing the Gap’ across 13 schools in the Trust. I work in partnership with the Education Endowment Foundation, the Research School Network and International Centre of Educational Enhancement at the University of Bolton, to broaden CELT schools’ understanding of research based evidence and implementation of practice, providing guidance, training and support to Senior Leaders and staff at all levels.

    I joined Brannel School in September 2015, as Deputy Headteacher, leading the Curriculum, having previously led the delivery of Teaching & Learning, Professional Development and KS3 Raising Standards. In addition to 8 years in secondary school senior leadership, I have twenty years of experience teaching Drama and Theatre Studies. During this time, I have completed his NPQH and am currently undertaking a Masters in Educational Leadership. I am passionate about education and its power to transform lives, ensuring every child or young person is able to aspire to a purposeful life, regardless of their social context and that every child has a right to a high-quality education.

    In my spare time, I love to explore the Cornish coast with my family, spotting wildlife and surfing.

  • Mr Dan Solly

    Vice Chair of Governors

    After completing my First Degree in Human Psychology at Loughborough University I moved to London as a postgraduate to study Music, graduating from the London College of Music in 1997 and entering the music profession as a session guitarist throughout most of my 20’s and into my 30’s. During this time, I taught guitar as a peripatetic and private teacher in between session work, finding that I really enjoyed teaching both children and adults, and in 2006 decided to formalise my teaching career through undertaking a PGCE in Further Education and Training through Plymouth University. From there, I was lucky enough to progress, through a number of roles in Further Education, from full time teacher, eventually moving into management as a Programme Area Manager at City College Plymouth, before successfully moving to my current role as Deputy Team Leader of Performing Arts and Head of Music at Truro and Penwith College. During this time I have also enjoyed a range of roles in governance, previously being on a board of Directors at a charity engaging disadvantaged young people in physical movement and dance; currently being on the Board of Directors at the Cornwall Music Service Trust, and thoroughly enjoying my role as chair to the Governing body at Lostwithiel School, where I have seen the fantastic and continuous improvement in the Children’s experience under the current staffing and leadership structure.

    Vice Chair of Governors

    I have been a governor at Lostwithiel School since 2015, and have also seen my three children go through the school over the last ten years. Having run my own local food business for 13 years, I recently changed career to become a professional Clerk to School Governors, working with governing boards across Cornwall. This has given me excellent insight and perspective into how schools work, and my voluntary governance role at Lostwithiel in particular, and has enabled me to support the school to the best of my ability. I know how important Lostwithiel School is to the local community, and vice versa. I am a member of the Lostwithiel – Pleyber Christ twinning society, and also of a local chamber choir, Caroryon Lowen. I am keen to support the school in its constant drive for improvement and the amazing work it does to keep children happy and safe.

  • Mrs Rebecca Ellis

    Safeguarding Governor

    I have held the position of safeguarding governor at Lostwithiel school for over 4 years. I was originally approached to carry out this position due to having children attend the school and my employment. I work as a detective sergeant in the Public Protection Unit for Devon and Cornwall Police. My primary role is to supervise investigations into child abuse and sexual exploitation. I also carry out an additional role as a child sexual exploitation champion for the force. I have previously held informal meetings in the school for the benefit of parents to give advice re online safety. Furthermore I provided the school with an informative PowerPoint relating to the changing nature of crime and the importance of keeping children safe online. I believe that my knowledge regarding safeguarding is beneficial to the school and to the children and parents and want to ensure I use my skills and knowledge to benefit the safeguarding practice of the school.

  • Dr Siobhan Gould

    SEND Governor

    For the last 15 years (10 years of which have been in Cornwall and 5 years in Birmingham) I am an Educational Psychologist. Through my work I have been passionately promoting childrens’ social and emotional well-being, as well as implementing evidence based approaches to ensure high standards of academic attainment. My aim is always to give our children the greatest life chances through their education. This is especially pertinent in the current climate which has affected our children in so many ways.
    Following training at the University of Cambridge, I am also a qualified teacher (having worked as a primary and SEN Teacher in the UK and abroad), so I fully understand the pressures experienced by teachers today. As an Educational Psychologist I support/supervise/train school staff; develop school policies; assess children; provide psychological therapies; and advise parents. This roles means that I have a clear understanding of the structures, policies and practices of the education system within Cornwall. I am inspired to apply for the opportunity to support Lostwithiel Primary School as a member of the governing body so that I contribute to the successful education of all children in school (including my son in Cherry Class) to give our children the best foundation to their education.

  • Mr Tom Miles

    Disadvantaged Pupils Governor

    I moved to Lostwithiel with my family in 2012 after living in Ghana, West Africa for the previous ten years. I currently run a glamping business but previously had worked in education promoting global citizenship and adventure travel. I love living in Cornwall and enjoy surfing, biking and camping in this beautiful playground.
    I became a school governor in 2016. One of my roles is supporting the school's commitment to ensuring the most disadvantaged children receive the best quality education possible through the Pupil Premium funding scheme. I am proud to be involved with Lostwithiel School and passionately believe we are fortunate to have such an inspiration and friendly school in our community.

    Staff Governor

    I have worked at Lostwithiel Primary School for over 21 years as the Reception Class teacher. I am passionate about providing our children with the best possible education and experiences so that each individual develops a love for learning and reaches their true potential.
